Metal recycling
In UK every year, millions tonnes of metal is recycled every year which generates billions of pounds in revenue. Only half of this recycled metal is exported in order to meet the foreign demands. The rest of the recycled metal is used for producing more metal for usage. Metal is very much useful also a versatile material. It is used for making various things like railway tracks, household appliances, ovens, cutlery, and packaging.
Recycling metal has several benefits. It can be recycled over and over again without even losing off the original properties of the metal. It is a valuable metal. Until the metal reaches its life end, it can be completed used to hundred percent and then recycle it. Steel and aluminum are two most commonly used metals in day-to-day life. Aluminum is used for making cans for soft drinks and steel is used for making the food cans. Steel and aluminum can be easily sorted using a magnet. Thus, sorting out the mixture of various metals is very much easy at the metal recycling depot. Metal recycling is much simpler than plastic recycling. While recycling, metal is divided in to ferrous and non-ferrous types of metals.
Ferrous metal recycling
Ferrous metal would include iron and steel. Thus, the scrap would include scraps from cars, food cans and some other household appliances. As per BMRA, British Metal Recycling Association, about four and half millions tonnes of steel and iron was supplied for recycling and from which over six millions tonnes of new metal was exported. Ferrous scrap metal thus is in demand. There is an increased growth of about 5% every time for the past decade.
Non-ferrous metal recycling
Nonferrous metal scrap would consist of metals like copper, aluminum and some other metals like brass, titanium, nickel, chromium, lead, and some others. Thus, the scrap would include drink cans, foil wrappers, kitchen foils, baking trays, bottle tops and some others. Less amount of non-ferrous meal is available. However, it is much more profitable as compared to the ferrous scrap metal. As per BMRA, over one million tonnes of waste metal was available for proceeding the last year. More than 800,000 tonnes of new metal was exported and there would be increase is stated.
Recycling at home
Most of the common waste items generated from households include drink and food cans. Recycling procedure is very much simple. Soon after the various cans are collected, they are sorted under the aluminum and steel. The cans are collected and impurities would be removed off and be recycled in the industry. Rest of the pure metal would be made in bocks or ingots.
The aluminum cans could be melted and then the impurities need to be removed. Then they would be made I to ingots which could be rolled over the aluminum sheets. Then these sheets will be used for making new cans and other products. The entire process of recycling is quite easy and the new cans would be out in the market within six weeks. These days, the local authorities have made a provision so that the empty cans can be easily collected roadside. Make use of these facilities and encourage others too. This would help saving the energy and protecting the environment.
